



A late 16th century gold ring set with a fossilised sea-urchin
European c.1600
Similar to a ‘toadstone’ ring, which itself is the fossilised tooth of a lepidotus fish. These were worn as a charm imbued with magical properties to, amongst others, ward off epilepsy and dropsy.
