About me

I Have been involved in the jewellery world for most of my life
I spent 24 years at S.J.Phillips. Primarily as a salesman but also gemmologist, stock-keeper, and PR manager, dealing with advertising, press, magazine shoots and high-profile loans.

One of the best parts of the job was working with the much published jewellery author and researcher Diana Scarisbrick (1928 - 2024). Her collection was stored in the SJP vault and she would frequently request something be retrieved for her to wear, either that or the said item would be going on loan to a museum for an exhibition. Before such an exhibition took place, other lenders would deposit their item, often a hugely precious ancestral jewel, with me for safekeeping, cataloguing and export license application, before being sent. Over those many years I was fortunate to handle not only the immense stock owned by Phillips', but also many items that are  unlikely to ever come on the open market.

Prior to starting at SJP I spent 6 years learning the trade the 'old school' way at a county jeweller, and before that, whilst still at school, I had a Saturday job in a jewellery workshop, learning the principles of jewellery manufacture. This knowledge of how jewellery is made, and what is and what is not possible, has been invaluable throughout my career.

In 2017 I started my own business.

I work from an office above Old Bond Street in London. Here I see, strictly by appointment, members of the trade and private individuals. I do not carry a large volume of stock but a selection of rare and interesting jewels. Many, but not all, of which are shown here on the 'items for sale' page

In the  years following I have owned, and often re-discovered, a selection of important pieces. Just a few of the highlights would be -  two items from the Russian crown jewels, a ring set with a diamond from the Imperial state crown of England, and several engraved gems from the feted Marlborough/Arundel collections, including a ring once believed to have been owned by Caligula.

The jewellery I offer could be of almost any time period, but I particularly like early jewels and rings (mostly 1200 to 1700 AD, ancient and Byzantine). I pride myself on offering exceptional antique jewels, fairly and honestly. This fairness and honesty also applies to my purchasing. I am constantly looking for new items to purchase, if you have items to offer please do not hesitate to get in touch.

As well as my office in London I also exhibit at shows in New York and Miami.
